Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

Mix white sugar and cinnamon on a ratio of 1 Tbsp sugar for 1 tsp cinnamon. You can prepare this ahead and store it in a mason jar for when you need it for donuts, donut holes, snickerdoodles, or even to add a spoonful to your coffee.

Brush the top and sides of your donuts with melted butter then sprinkle with the mixture.

Maple Icing:

My favorite, the joy of all joys and the reason why I once got up at 5 in the morning after a plane trip from France just to make sure I'd have some from the local store. Talk about obsessed, uh?!

butter

double of maple syrup

confectioners' sugar

In a pan, melt the butter with the maple syrup and bring it to the boiling point.

Remove in a bowl and whisk in confectioners' sugar until the mixture is light brown and quite thick and sticky.

Leave in the fridge to thicken.

Brush the top and sides of the donuts with it.

vanilla flavored with sprinkles, maple and sugar cinnamon coating

Vanilla-flavored icing with sprinkles:

This is the same icing I use for my old-fashioned sour cream crumb cake. It also serves as the basis for my chocolate frosting for donuts.

1/2 cup confectioners' sugar

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

2 Tbsp heavy cream

Whisk until quite thick and leave in the fridge to thicken. If you make too much, you can keep it in the fridge in a glass container for several days.

Brush the top and sides of the donut with it. Add chocolate or rainbow sprinkles.

Chocolate-flavored icing:

Use the same recipe as above and add unsweetened cocoa. The more you add, the darker the icing. Be careful though as the taste with be stronger too.

Cover the donuts and add sprinkles to your liking.
