Unicorn Wars possesses various inspirations, such as : Bambi, the Bible, Princess Mononoke, Harry Potter and even human history events.

The film states the Bible or ideas of it. The bears have their own cult and ways so it’s partly inspired but ‘the Book’ is the bears’ version which is slightly different.

Princess Mononoke main feature is a war between the environmentalists and the religious. The teddy bears are mainly directed by the ways of their God and war when the unicorns only long for peace and life in their forest. Some side characters are very similar, for example the simians. It clearly reports the environmental issues faced and ignored nowadays.

Bambi is the obvious vision of harmless animals in danger trying to survive in their natural habitat recreated in Unicorn Wars. The problem of the mother is also replicated. Monstrous idea of living, trying to survive when everything tries to murder you.

Harry Potter is similar in the ways of the use of unicorns. The ones who drink the last unicorn’s blood will be immortal and beautiful. Bluey like Voldemort crave for that blood, the only difference is that Bluey needs to kill every other one to drink the last’s when in Voldemort’s case it was already the last unicorn. It exposes the bloodlust and monstrosity of both Voldemort and Bluey.

Unicorn Wars

The bears’ motto is :”A good unicorn is a dead unicorn !” which is a reference to “A good Indian is a dead Indian !” a sentence said by the American Colonizers when they slaughtered the Natives Americans. The phrase is repeated numerously throughout the film. As they shout their motto they also raise their hand to the sky, palm facing the ground which resembles the Nazis salute. It denounces the totalitarian regimes and the past dictatorship. The bears aren’t as lovely and harmless as one might think.

Unicorn Wars is inspired by many different and known cultural assets and movies.‘Are bears born inherently good or evil ?’ The purpose of the movie is to make us wonder about our ideas of right and wrong also denounce many main issues faced or being faced by humanity.
