You will find attached the Powerpoint Presentation used in class which gives you clues about the Troubles. Your task consisted in memorizing as much information as possible to be able to make a definition of this period of events.
5 shootings that bloodstained America - Written Comprehension HOMEWORK
As part of your homework during those weeks without classes, please find attached a grid you need to fill in with the required information from the texts in annex. They all deal with shoot-outs that traumatized Americans. Also keep in mind that there are shootings every year, therefore the list of gun massacres in the document is far from being exhaustive.
NB: In class I would have made you worked in groups, with oral interaction activities yet you can see it is not possible given the CO-VID 19 confinement situation, hence you will work individually.
Just a clue, so that you avoid lacking space when filling in the grid: you must draft the information about the Fort Hood shootings in the line "Group 5" (as two shoot-outs took place in that military base).
The National Rifle Association - a very powerful lobby
The document below is the oral comprehension document which defines what the NRA is and the ideas it defends.
A little question: do you recognize the the sentence in the coffin in the GIF below? Where does it come from?
Gun facts - Events, Timeline and Toolbox
Dear students,
Find in annex the timeline and the gun-related events - often laws that were enacted or repealed - that you had to match with the corresponding dates, resorting to your knowledge and logic. You will also find the vocabulary toolbox to help you understand some tricky words extracted from the short texts and the vocabulary exercise done in class.
The video below is a little extra: it is a work of art entitled "Identity Crisis" made by American artist Michael Murphy, a double anamorphosis which leads us to ponder on America's identity, as its title suggests.
The Great Trek (& The Myth of the Empty Land)
As I told you, you will find attached the worksheet about the Great Trek (and the Myth of the Empty Land, for those whom we worked on that matter with)
Interview with Nelson Mandela
After you performed the interview with Nelson Mandela in class, I told you I'd give you access to the content of the Powerpoint presentation we worked with in class. Please find it attached below the GIF.
You will also find attached both the empty grid and the corrected one with all the questions and answers of the interview.
Black Power
The Youtube video below features a legendary moment in the history of sport.
It illustrates Tommie Smith, John Carlos and Peter Norman, the three running athletes on the podium in the 1968 Mexico Olympics.
Discovering the city of Belfast
Dear students,
You will find attached the worksheet on the fifteen sights in Belfast, with which you played the interaction game in half-groups. Find also in annex the vocabulary toolbox that you learned for the vocabulary battle game.
The video below is a short bonus video which gives you the top 10 things to do in Belfast !
Apartheid regime
Ladies & gentlemen,
You will find attached the PowerPoint presentation gathering all the information revolving around the Apartheid regime and the printed version with blanks to fill in.
The video below is an extract from a film adaptation which features the very beginning of the protest which led to the 1976 Soweto uprising.
The dividing effects of sports
Dear students,
Find attached the three documents which highlight the fact that sport can create divisions within the society instead of federating us - as it is supposedly meant to.
In class you had to write a synthesis explaining why these three documents showed the dividing effects of sports.
Document 1 deals with football hooliganism.
Document 2 is a video which features racist abuse hurled against English football players in Bulgaria.
Document 3 gathered two graphs which enhanced the difference of pay and media coverage between male and female sportspeople.
