Louis Armstrong - When the Saints Go Marching In

16novembre

Dear students in 1G4 and 1STSS,

In class, we briefly talked about Louis Armstrong, the trumpeter and singer known for being the greatest jazz musician that became more and more famous during the Harlem Renaissance.

You'll find below a Youtube video of one of his live performances, aired/broadcast on TV many decades later (I believe in the 1960s). The song he is performing in the video, entitled "When the Saints Go Marching In" is extremely popular.

There is no homework to do about it and this is not a document that we studied in class: I would just like you to sit & relax to watch the video & enjoy the music !

The Harlem Renaissance

10novembre

Dear students,

Please find attached the Word document which recaps the content of the PowerPoint presentation that defined, thanks to imagery and explanations, what the Harlem Renaissance is - that is the African-American social, intellectual, artistic and cultural movement that developed and boomed in the 1920s.

The GIF below features trumpeter and singer Louis Armstrong, who remains the biggest name in the world of jazz music (The Harlem Renaissance is mainly and closely associated to jazz and the rise of African-American culture).
