Doc Martens

this document is a text with illustrations.

It comes from a website.

It comes from the Dr Martens' official website.

It is about the story of the Dr Martens shoes.

 

The text is composed of different paragraphs.

each paragraph is related to the chronology.

It starts with the beginning of the inventor.

The inventor is Dr Martens he was a German soldier during the second world war.

He was injured.

He invented a sole.

In the 1960's Max Grigg a British shoe maker bought the license and he made some changes in the making of the shoe.

some very noticeable elements were made :

- yellow stitch

- a two tone grooved sole edge     ( groove = rainure)

- a unique sole pattern

The boots were branded as ‘Airwair’.

During the 1960's many political and cultural changes appeared.Dr. Martens has always kicked against the norm.

At the beginning, the Dr Martens shoes were Britain’s working classes shoes.

Visiting London

In this dialogue we have 5 characters.

a family  with the mother, the father, the son, the daughter and a bus driver.

The daughter is called Emily.

Her family is in London because they're sightseeing, they are tourists so they do not live in London.

London looks big to them. there are a lot of monuments.

They want to see the Queen's palace called Buckimgham. If the queen is in her castle there is a flag on the palace.

They are taking the bus to get there.

It costs 40 pounds for the family.

It is expensive.

Have you ever been to England?

Yes, I have. I visited England with my English teacher because we worked on the Preraphaelites and we stayed in a youth hostel and we visited William Morris' house and also the Victoria and Albert Museum. The weather was beautiful.

I enjoyed cooking and living all together in the hostel.

The Paralympic Games

There is no date but we studied it in September.

It was adapted by our teacher.

The title of this article is : " the Paralympic Games"

We studied this text because in September 2016 there were the Paralympic Games in Rio, in Brazil.

 

- what can you see on this document?

-I can see 4 pictures. They illustrate the title.

- on picture one I can see: an opening ceremony in a stadium. It is a black and white picture. It is an old picture.

- on picture two , I can see a man who is speaking with a microphone, he is delivering a speech.

- His name is Ludwig Guttman,

- He was a neurosurgeon.

-He took care of injured soldiers after WW2 (world war 2)

-He is opening the first international paralympic games.

-Guttman recognized the value of sport for the body and the mind of the soldiers

- On  picture 3 I can see archeries on wheelchairs. It is an adapted sport.

on picture 4 I can some people on wheelchairs maybe they are playing wheelchair soccer (football).

-the paralympic games are now becoming very popular and very competitive. Many people watch it on tv .

- basket ball. archery  - I go to the gym regularly - tennis- swimming - boccia -

In our school, sport is important.

We can see this article under a video. The name of this video is "how to make the perfect cup of tea"

the short article was written by Rosemary Bennet.

It was written on the twenty third of April 2013.

The main theme is tea.

Rosemary Bennett is a British journalist. She says We and our and she also speaks of gallon and not liter.

She says that  a cup of tea is her nation's favourite drink.

She insists on the number of British people who drink tea.

She also insists on the number of cups they drink.

The British add milk and sugar in their tea. they destroy the flavours.

Some British admit that they are addicted to tea.

With our teacher we drank different teas with different flavours :

rose chocolate ..; I prefer .....

I didn't like ...;

I do not drink tea at home.

I drink jasmin/ mint tea ..;

I prefer drinking coffee

I don't like hot drinks
