With the other group, we went around the city to do a treasure hunt called “The Legend of Wheeler’s Haul”. It’s a local legend about a large smuggled haul hidden somewhere on the Isle of Wight by the Wheelers Gang. It was hidden around the time of The Clarendon shipwreck in 1836.

The haul was to contain a large amount of Rum, fine wine, molasses and valuables personal items from ships.

The Wheelers Gang were caught shortly after. Most of them died during duty but one, John Wheeler returned returned to the Island after nearly 8 years of service.

In the middle of the treasure hunt, we went shopping in the streets of Ventnor and some of us bought food and candies.
