Notes to copy in your copybook:
Street Art
- The purpose of Street Art is to express thoughts.
- It is also a way to express one’s singularity.
- The viewer is closer to the work of art as it is not shown in a museum/ as it is visible in cities.
- Street Art also highlights social issues like poverty.
Some examples of Pop Art artists: Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Haring…
Keywords to remember:
Biased/unbiased = partial/impartial
To provide = fournir
Information à always in the singular
A report should be objective/unbiased whereas when you express your emotions you are biased, it is not a report but a testimony.
History: facts, causes, consequences
Figures = chiffres
A topic à un sujet spécifique
Step 2: listening
The document (audio 1 attached) is an informative audio file about the history of graffiti and street art in the USA.
Monday, April 28th : notes to copy
ACT 1: This audio file is about the history of graffiti, how it started in the US, then spread over the world. In this report, the woman is not expressing any emotions, but she delivers what she wants to tell us. Her tone is neutral and formal.
figures (here) = chiffres
To spread/spread/spread: répandre
ACT 2: If you only focus on the keywords (graffiti, student, tagging…), you do understand what the second audio file is all about. Modern graffiti started in Philadelphia in 1967 when a student wanted a girl’s attention, then it spread all over the U.S. People wanted to express their discontent and used inaccessible locations.
