One day she took them to drive in her chariot. Reaching a lake, she told them that they might bathe in the clear water; but so soon as they were in it she struck them with a fairy wand and she turned them into four beautiful snow-white swans.

She left them, and before long their father, King Lir, came to the shore and heard their singing. He asked how they came to have human voices. “We are your four children,” said Finola, “changed into swans by our stepmother’s jealousy.”

But the time came when the nine hundred years of banishment were ended, and they might fly back to their father’s old home, Finnahà, but everything was changed by time—even the walls of their father’s palace were crumbled and rain-washed.
One May morning, as the children of Lir floated in the air around the island of Inis Glora, they heard a faint bell sounding across the eastern sea.
When they touched the shore, the weight of all those centuries fell upon them; they resumed their human bodies, but they appeared old and pale and wrinkled, and they died.

Vous avez vu le film Titanic?
Il y a une scène où une mère couche ses enfants et leur raconte une histoire pour qu'ils s'endorment et ne se rendent pas compte qu'ils vont mourir.
L'actrice a demandé aux Irlandais autour d'elle quelle histoire choisir. Il s'agit de Tir Na Nog.
Vous allez aujourd'hui découvrir cette histoire mais elle a été mélangée.
Remettez-là dans l'ordre. Un mot de passe apparaitra.
Trouvez le mot de passe et réfléchissez à pourquoi cette histoire était si appropriée dans cette scène du Titanic.

Correction Saint Patrick and the Snakes
A little Irish boy tells us about a legend from his culture. He says there are many versions of the story.
There were many snakes in Ireland. They created a lot of problems: attacked people, ate crops.
Saint Patrick was a catholic priest. He decided to help the people by driving the snakes out from Ireland.
He rang his church bell to attract the snakes. The snakes followed him, all the way up a cliff, overlooking the sea.
Saint Patrick played some music (a tune) and the snakes fell into the sea.
They merged together to form a giant serpent.
Nobody knows if the story is true, but the boy says that we know for sure there are no snakes in Ireland.
