Internship report: Deebert House Hotel

I did an internship at Deebert House Hotel, located in Ireland, more precisely the city Kilmallock in the county of Limrick, from the 9th of July to the 23rd of July. The Deebert House Hotel is a three star hotel featuring its own restaurant at the ground floor which is equally apreciated by local people and tourists, but also has two conference rooms where associations, companies and clubs would hold their meetings. The hotel rooms were on the first and the second floor and were mostly designed for two persons. The hotel promotes (guided) tours and trips in the Ballyhoura Country which is like a natural reserve with classic irish villages and culture.

My tasks in the hotel were varied, and to explain them I will first talk about  the staff and their organisation. The repartition was the following: One or Two cooks in the kitchen, 2 waiters in the restaurant, one person to clean the dishes, another two people to clean and prepare the rooms for the next customers, one person at the reception and finally two managers to supervise all of the tasks, mostly doing paperwork though.
I was asked to work in several of these services: strictly manual work like hoovering and washing conference rooms or the restaurant's floor after rush-hour, chopping all sorts off fruits and vegetables in the kitchen and cleaning the hotel rooms, doing simple paperwork at the reception but also interactive work such as taking orders from customers in the restaurant and serving their food to them and similar activities offering the possibility to talk to either customers or staff.
My working hours were from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. and I had a lunchbreak of half an hour, which didn't have a fix time but instead depended on the task I was currently carrying out.

What I really apreciated about this internship is that I got to talk a lot with different customers while working in the restaurant and also with the staff in the kitchen. I therefore was able to practice my English while getting more familliar with the work in a small company. I also really got along with the staff and they made my time there quite enjoyable. The manager gave me a very pleasing reference at the end of this internship, which seems like a valuable asset for finding a summer job in a hotel or a restaurant if I send my application to one.
The negative point was that the work, especially the manual one without any interaction was quite boring and not very educative, even though deffinitly part of the experience.

In the end, I can say that I am glad to have found this internship which helped me to further improve my english and gather some usefull work experience at the same time.
