Expectations
We expect something to happen / we expect something from somebody / we expect somebody to behave in a certain way
What do we expect from superheroes?
We expect a superhero to be brave, charismatic, to help people, to make the world a better place, to be unique, to do something out of the ordinary (= extraordinary). We also expect superheroes to wear a costume and to remain anonymous/to hide their true identity.
Captain America (comics page here)
superhero, from comics -> fictional hero, superhuman skills and superpowers.
"super" = above the others, above average
Captain America fought against Nazism, during World War II. He stands fro values such as liberty, democracy, peace, justice. He has extraordinary strength (that of a two ton truck). => Captain America meets our expectations as a hero.
Deadpool (comics page here)
Deadpool is not a typical hero. He wears a costume and he has superpowers (extraordinary strength, almost immortal), but he does not meet our expectations. Although he is brave and sometimes helps people, he fights for his own interests and does not promote the positive values we usually see in a superhero. Deadpool is the archetypal anti-hero. He is rude, he swears a lot, he is violent/prone to violence.
