This movie, called “Exit through the gift shop” was directed by Banksy. It is a documentary made about Thierry Guetta, a French man obsessed with filming and street art. It tells how Thierry, who is a huge fan of Banksy, came to work him, and how he himself became a renowned street artist, called Mr. Brainwash.

The movie is made up with lot of camera roll pictures of Thierry’s life, that he has filmed for years. Every moment of his everyday life could be found on thousands of tapes; from his home life to his street artist’s helper one. Indeed, his first connection with street art was through an acquaintance of his: the French street artist Space Invaders, who places mosaics in the streets of Paris. He assisted him, looked out in case some police officers would come, and helped him carrying everything he needed.

This is how, taking profit of the influence of his contacts and becoming useful to his friends, he managed to meet some more famous street artists, and eventually reached Banksy himself.

He made himself indispensable to Banksy, who came to consider him as a friend. He was even allowed into Banksy’s own workplace, and the street artist took him with every night he was out. Thierry showed to be a precious and loyal friend; however, his original purpose was to make a movie about street art; which he had to do.

“An endless unwatchable trailer”, according to Banksy who seemed for the first time to tell his true feelings about the whole situation. He instead advised Thierry to try to become a street artist. Flatted by this counsel, the French man launched a massive work to organize a gigantic exhibition. He indebted himself, and had to resell his house; but luckily, the exhibition was a success, and it is with flying colours that he became known as “Mr. Brainwash”.
