At the end of the 1950s, following the two world wars, artists followed a new movement: pop art. In America, although it really became known around 1960 (1958) in New York, pop art is the return to an art that uses worldly reality, irony. If at that time commercials were becoming more popular, American artists would look for them more dramatic topics that would change the perfection shown in the advertisements. On the contrary the British, perform a more romantic, sentimental and humorous work. It was by the "Independent Group" that pop art appeared in London in 1952.
If in France pop art becomes popular in the 2000s, we find a lot in Paris, especially at the Maillol museum. From the 22nd of September to the 21st of January, an exhibition was held in this museum, where remarkable artworks from the Pop Art Movement could be found as paintings, sculptures and prints. this exhibition contains many works criticizing the society of the 20th century, a consumer society, such as the problem of smoking found in Tobacco Rhoda by Mal Ramos for example or with the work of Claes Oldenburg, Giant Fagends. If the works of art presented to us are very original, an explanation of the works allows us to better understand the context. What is interesting is the different artistic styles that are proposed to us, the watercolor at May Stevens with Triple Daddy blue, the silkscreen in Tobacco Rhoda, or the sculpture with Giant Fagends. Personally, I found this exhibition very entertaining and interesting. At first sight a lot of them, may shock, some may even find them inadequate, for me it's an original way to convey a message through art. As far as I am concerned, I think that the artists of this exhibition are great, because of their modern style and their creative work. That is why this exhibition seem to me very interesting, it is at the same time original and interesting but the artists are also trying to convey a message.
