Punk rock instrumentation mostly includes one or two electric guitars, an electric bass, drums and obviously the vocals. Being a Punk does not mean to be a great musician because their guitar stay basic, (not complicated guitar solo for example)

The vocals were sometimes shouted and sometimes sung. They could sound nasal.

Punks lyrics are very explicit, mostly arguing with social establishement and political stuff, this is one of the reasons why this genre has been rejected by a lot of people at this time.

Now, for explanation's sake, let's take a look at God Saves the Queen, through both Sex Pistols' version and English national anthem. The videos shown below contain the lyrics of the song that's playing so that you can understand if you're not used to this kind of activity.

In the original they said "God save our gracious Queen Long live to our noble Queen...

So you can see the contrast with the Sex Pistols' cover above. The punk deals with fascism and ecology problems. Stuff like that.
