I worked hard on my news report and I have a good mark! That's very cool :) Here is my news report on single parents family:
BEING A SIGNLE PARENT, NOT EASY!
Elena Gilbert for The New York Times. Lansing, Michigan: May 29th. My name is Elena Gilbert and the new topic of the day is single parenthood. Marie-Thérèse will tell us everything we want to know especially why there has been an increasing in single parenthood.
Over the last century, male-dominated societies have been challenged and women have become emancipated, financially & sexually. As a consequence, values have been redefined and new family structures have emerged like single parenthood.
It's in the 1970's that the concept of single parenthood appeared. Nowadays, single parenthood is on the rise. Indeed, single parent families are 45 more common than 40 years ago and concern one in five households. In 85% of cases, the mother heads the family and in one in two case she doesn't have a full-time job. As a consequence, there is a high risk of poverty and a social insecurity. Nonetheless, single parenthood is more & more numerous and various. Marie-Thérèse, a professor of sociology says: "Since the 60s, the part of widow and widowers in single parent families has been decreasing to benefit of separated or divorced parents." Indeed, people used to be leave alone after the death of the husband or wife in three in four cases. Now, three in four cases are separated or divorced parents. However, children become faster self-reliant and do the household chores to help their mother or father. They learn not to be dependent on a husband/wife because they can be alone at any time. Moreover, in the case where the mother heads the family, mothers are younger & younger. As a consequence, several have low graduation and can't have a well-paid job: "I don't think I realized how stressed I was, being a single parent. It was really, really stressful. It's not easy on anybody." by Reese Witherspoon
Finally, as divorce laws became less strict, the number of mariages ending in divorce greatly increased, along with the number of single parents. Another consequence is also the jump in remariages and thus in blended families.
