A NATION REMEMBERS

"On September 11, people across the United States will remember a very sad event in the nation’s history.

On that day in 2001, terrorists attacked the U.S. They took control of four airplanes by force. Two of the planes hit the World Trade Center, destroying the two tallest buildings in New York City. Another plane knocked down part of the Pentagon, a military building in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth plane crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Since then, the U.S. military has caught many of the people who helped plan the attacks. The U.S. has also worked to make airports and airplanes even safer. This year, a new memorial will open in New York City. It will honor all those who died on September 11.
