The movie « L’image manquante » was written and directed by Rity Panh. The story is the true
story of the director’s youth. The movie has for main theme Cam bodge under Pol Pot and the Red
Khmer. The laws, the way of life and the liberties that the Cambodian once had are gone.
This movie shows what we missed, what was never seen, what was missing. I thought this movie was
moving, the pressure keeps building up throughout the movie and even though the movie is slow it
keeps you on edge. The movie is slow because in real life, this situation was slow and painful.
I believe that even though there is a lack of actors, footage, and action in a way the figurines
illustrate the movie perfectly and I can’t see any other way of making this movie more strange,
awkward and put the viewer unease while watching it. This movie is fascinating, disturbing and
has never been seen before.

The Missing Picture is a 2013 animation movie, made by a Cambodian and French Man
: Rithy Panh. The movie is about the dictatorship instored by The «Khmers Rouges
» in Cambodia in 1975.
In the movie, Rithy Panh-in voice over-tells us about his life and what he passed
trough with his family during this totalitarian regime.
There are no actors but rather figurines in clay. It was the choice of the
Director to use figurines in clay to contrast or the world of childhood with the
world of the war. At the end of the movie, the voice over said that the
Cambodians wore so tired, hungry and devastated by the totalitarian regime, that
they've lost their Saul.
We can make the link with the figurines because they don't have any Saul either.
I thought that the filming technique was very original because I haven't seen a
movie witch used the traveling techniques in an animation movie all along the
movie.
I was also really impressed by the historical footage where we could see the
Cambodians working.
But for me the most interesting footage, is the one with the wave because I think
this is the most simple and at the same time an anxiety producing metaphor that
symbolises memories that knee coming back like waves.

The missing picture is a movie wich was directed by Rithy Panh.
This movie illustrates a war and a massacer in Cambodgeby throug footage.
The war began in 1975 at 1979. When the Khmer Rouge is comming the massacer as begining.
The people must work everyday without much food and without shoes.
I have found this movie very striking. And I think this a good idea and really interisting to use clay figurine.
We can throught the movie that many people die. The concequences are that many children are became orphans and were lefted by their own.
I didn't know this regime and it helped me to realize how the Khmer Rouge instored a totalitariam regime and how much violance they caused.
