World Day Against Child Labour

Today  Solene, Lili and Pauline have spoken about World Against Child Labour Day.

"The International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations body which regulates the world of work, launched the World Day Against Child Labour in 2002 in order to bring attention and join efforts to fight against child labour. This day brings together governments, local authorities, civil society and international, workers and employers organizations to point out the child labour problem and define the guidelines to help child labourers." It takes place every year on the 12th of June .

This year , World Day Against Child Labour draws attention to the role of social protection in keeping children out of child labour and removing them from it.

The latest ILO estimates , released in September 2013, indicate that the number of child labourers has declined by one third since 2000, from 246 million to 168 million. The number of children in hazardous work stands at 85 million, down from 171 million in 2000. Most of this advance was achieved between 2008 and 2012, when the global number fell by 47 million, from 215 to 168 million, and the number of children in hazardous work fell by 30 million, from 115 to 85 million.

We are moving in the right direction but progress is still too slow. If we are serious about ending the scourge of child labour in the foreseeable future, we need a substantial stepping-up of efforts at all levels. There are 168 million good reasons to do so."

                                  Guy Ryder, ILO Director-General

It is said in the video that" child labour not only deprives millions of children of their rights and their education but it also reinforces the circle of poverty and hampers acountry's developement" Can you explain why ?
