Spain visit in Avila - 2/8 October 2016

The students stayed at the Spanish students' homes and the teachers stayed at the Hotel "Puerta del Alcazar".

On Sunday 2nd a bus picked up all the students and teachers up at the airport. As there was extra time between one flight and another, teachers and students had some free time in Madrid to have lunch and go sightseeing.

Around 19.00 we arrived in Avila where families were waiting for us in the Centro de Recepción de Visitantes and from there students went to their hosts' homes and teachers could have dinner in a restaurant nearby the hotel.

On Monday 3rd students came to the school with the families at 9.00. After that they visited the school and met the principal. At 9.20 they started with the following presentations.

  • News on migration” from each country.

  • Book reports.

  • Successful immigrants.

  • Presentation of economic crisis and migration in and from Greece.

After the coffee break we continued with the presentations and we started choosing topics for the drama.

At 13.30 we took the touristic tram to go sightseeing the most significant places in our town. The tram left us at the school and students and teachers went for lunch. 

At 17.00 teachers met at the school to talk about the programme to follow during those days. After that everyone had free time the rest of the evening.

On Tuesday 4th at 9.00 everybody met at the Centro de Recepción de Visitantes, to take the bus to Madrid. We visited The Spanish Parliament with a guided tour. We walked around Madrid seeing some important places outside, like Puerta de Sol, Plaza Mayor, Gran Vía, Alcalá Street, Royal Palace, Opera Hall… Then we had time to have lunch, go shopping and relax under Madrid’s sun.

We visited the Prado Museum freely for two hours and we had some extra free time before coming back to Avila.

On Wednesday 5th we met at the school to work in the different workshops:

  • One short stage play and one movie script to be acted out / filmed at our next meeting in Lithuania

  • Someone documented the movie/drama workshops – for our presentation on Friday but also for the MapBook and our exhibition.

  • Production of our exhibition catalogue (contents, structure, work plan, design etc)

At 16.30 we joined together again to go on working in the workshops.

On Thursday 6th at 9.00 we met at the school to go on working in the following workshops:

  • Making Two Migration Maps depicting migration to and from our participating countries 1.) within and 2.) outside of Europe and comparing the results.

  • Finishing the drama play and the film.

After the coffee break at 11.30 we met at the school to go together to the city hall. At the City Hall we met the Mayor of Avila and another city official on Avila’s migration situation.

Then we visited the Youth Council which organizes many workshops and activities and where most of the users are immigrants. One of the people who works there explained what they do.

At 17.00 Everyone met at the Cathedral square to visit the Cathedral. After the visit we went up the Wall. Everyone could walk freely on the wall and from there they had free time.

On Friday 7th at 9.00 we met at the school to finish the workshops before the presentation. At 10.45 we presented the meeting’s results:

a) Migration Maps

b) Summarize the Interviews

c) Present the best “quotes of the day”

d) Reports on the stage plays / movies planned for Lithuania

e) Report on our planned exhibition catalogue

On Saturday 8th at 9.15 the partners left from Centro de Recepción de visitantes to go to Madrid to take the plane and back home.

And this is a summary about the incredible, exciting and wonderful week we passed in October.
